چکیده

The composition and existing species of the reaction production of Hg and X (X= Cl, Br and I) under different conditions, and their absorption, Rayleigh scattering (RS) and resonance Rayleigh scattering (RRS) spectra have been studied. The results show that the products exist in the form of nanoparticles as [HgX2]n aggregates under suitable conditions, and their average diameters increase with the increase of X diameters. The diameters of [HgCl2]n, [HgBr2]n and [HgI2]n are less than 4 nm, equal to 9 nm and 70 nm respectively. There are bathchromic shifts gradually with the increase of X diameters in their absorption spectra. The absorption bands of [HgCl2]n and [HgBr2]n locate at ultraviolet region. However, the absorption band of [HgI2]n is obvious in visible light region. Among three particles, only [HgI2]n exhibits a strong RRS and its scattering peak is at 580 nm. The main reasons leading to the enhancement of resonance scattering are the large size of nanoparticle, the formation of the interface and the location of light scattering in the absorption band. There are three important factors affecting resonance scattering spectrum: the quanta colored effect and molecular absorption spectrum of [HgI2]n nanoparticle as well as instrumental factors which mainly include the light source’s emission spectral characteristics and the signal response curve of detector.

Reflection spectra of four porous silicon samples under etching times of 2, 6, 10, and 14 min with current density of 10 mA/cm2 were measured. Reflection spectra behaviors for all samples were the same, but their intensities were different and decreased by increasing the etching time. The similar behavior of reflection spectra could be attributed to the electrolyte solution concentration which ...

Hyper-Rayleigh scattering studies of silver, copper, and platinum nanoparticle suspensions

The optical frequency doubling properties of silver, copper, and platinum nanoparticles in aqueous solution are studied via hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS) spectroscopy. Substantial HRS responses are observed for silver and copper particles. The response is attributed to enhancement due to resonance of the nonlinearly scattered light with the particles’ surface plasmon absorption band. Platinum...

Gold nanoparticles on polarizable surfaces as Raman scattering antennas.

Surface plasmons supported by metal nanoparticles are perturbed by coupling to a surface that is polarizable. Coupling results in enhancement of near fields and may increase the scattering efficiency of radiative modes. In this study, we investigate the Rayleigh and Raman scattering properties of gold nanoparticles functionalized with cyanine deposited on silicon and quartz wafers and on gold t...

Hyper-rayleigh Scattering and Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering Studies of Platinum Nanoparticle Suspensions

Platinum nanoparticles (ptNPs) in the water are synthesized by nanosecond pulsed laser ablation of a pure platinum plate in the distilled water. Using hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS) spectroscopy is observed considerable HRS responses. Pt nanoparticles do not have visible-region plasmon absorption, do not represent clear HRS signals, whereas surprisingly, they exhibit strong surface-enhanced Ra...

Synthesis, linear extinction, and preliminary resonant hyper-Rayleigh scattering studies of gold-core/silver-shell nanoparticles: comparisons of theory and experiment

Gold-core/silver-shell nanoparticles featuring core diameters of 13 or 25 nm were prepared in aqueous solution. Silver-coated gold nanoparticles have two distinct plasmon absorption bands whose relative intensities depend on the shell thickness – features that are captured well by classical Mie theory. The core/shell spectra are not simply linear combinations of the pure-component spectra. Theo...
